Rise of the Triad (2013)

PostPosted by Cyker » Sun Aug 04, 2013 5:12 pm

Bought from GoG

Installer works out of the box with no problems.

However, tries to install .NET4 which fails with the good old 'not a valid Win32 application' error. However, like most games that 'need' .NET, it is only required for the launcher - The game itself can be run directly.

Main game executable is in "<INSTALL DIR>\Binaries"

PETool or alternative is required to edit the ROTT.exe in this directory to get past the 'Not a valid Win32 application' error.

Missing DLL dependencies of ROTT.exe:
ADVAPI32.DLL
KERNEL32.DLL
WS2_32.DLL
^-- Obtained from the wrapper pack (Along with _ORG versions of course)

D3DCOMPILER_43.DLL
D3DX9_43.DLL
MSVCP100.DLL
MSVCR100.DLL
XINPUT1_3.DLL
XAPOFX1_5.DLL
X3DAUDIO1_7.DLL
D3DX11_43.DLL
^-- Can be downloaded, but using 7Zip, can unpack the "Rise of the Triad\Binaries\Redist\UE3Redist.exe" and then unpack the [0] file - Inside here are various installers for all the above files which can be manually unpacked with 7zip and placed in the binaries directory.

DBGHELP.DLL
PSAPI.DLL
FAULTREP.DLL
^-- Downloaded from 'the internet' (Used links in other posts and/or copied from existing game directories in my case :))

Game partially works: Without .NET, can't set most graphics options as apparently this has to be done by the launcher :(

Once running, game is very buggy on my system: The floor disappears randomly but other than that it works and you can run around, jump, shoot things etc.

Sound is completely non-functional - No music, no SFX.

Work in progress!

Can you upload Dependency Walker log (open exe -> profile the game)? I'd like to take a look.

Sorry, not even turned this compy on for a while! :lol:

Fired up the game via dependancy walker, ran around a bit, got exploded.

Saved the log as text as well as DWI in the attached rar file.

HTH!

Edit: Doesn't appear to be a way to upload files here so have uploaded it here instead: http://cyker.net/Public/Win2K/ROTT.rar

Hi,

let's see. First we take a look at the sound issue. Do you have the complete X3dsound driver archive? If so, delete XAPOFX1_5.DLL and X3DAUDIO1_7.DLL in the games\gog\the rise of the triad\binaries\win32\ directory. Copy all the driver files inside the x3daudio driver copy_to_system32 folder to the Win2k system32 root directory and register the libraries with register Win2k X3DAudio.bat.

Delete D3DX11_43.DLL in games\gog\the rise of the triad\binaries\win32\ folder.

Let me know how it works. Please supply a new profiled Dependency Walker log (DWI) of the game.

Installing the X3DAudio fixed the sound issue \o/

Tried disabling the D3DX11 DLL but the game complains that it can't find it (Why I put it there originally).

Seems okay aside from the missing floor and the terrible performance, but the latter of those problems seems to be a common issue with the game which they are apparently trying to sort out in patches. Currently playing around with the INI files to see if I can fix the floor render bug but don't have much time atm and the INI files are a nightmare of duplicate sections! :(

If you want BTW, I could gift a copy to you via GoG so you can play around with it yourself! :)

Hey,

glad to hear the sound is working now. Can you upload a latest Dependency Walker profile log?

Sorry, forgot that bit; Had some trouble with it:

Annoyingly, now that the sound is working, Dependency Walker is triggering a debug trap in BINK so you're only getting trace up to the point where BINK throws a hissy fit and terminates.

Still, hope this is of some use!

Thanks.

@bink error:
It's because of the Dependency Walker debugger that got detected.

@graphic issues:
You have a nvidia card, right? Which card? What driver version are you using? Problem is related:
APEXFRAMEWORKCHECKED_X86.DLL -> NVCUDA.DLL (Nvidia cuda driver)
APEX_CLOTHINGGPUCHECKED_X86.DLL -> NVCUDA.DLL (Nvidia cuda driver)
That's when libraries (here it's nvcuda.dll) are marked red.

Graphics card is an nVidia 7950GT AGP, fastest card I could find that worked reliably in Win2K! (Albeit with only one set of drivers!)

Pretty sure it doesn't support things like PhysX and CUDA as it's the last of the fixed-function GPU cards I think...
