Renegade Ops with directx10 for XP - not enough storage

PostPosted by 2000gamer » Mon Nov 04, 2013 3:54 pm

I succesfully installed renegade ops with directx10 for xp, but when I try to run the game I get a message: "The specified program requires a newer version of windows" (1150 system error code), and I cannot start the game.

I tried several tricks, but NONE of work:

1.) OCW version faking and fcwin2k win7 compatible mode: I get a message: "Not enought storage is available to complete this operation"
This problem is caused, that Win vista/7 contain a windows games explorer, which is missing from win 2k/xp, and many programs requires this component, if you run in win7.
I found a page, where they try to run just cause 2 (this game very similar to renegade ops) on win2008, which not have games explorer:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=1953240
I should download games explorer, but I am afraid of virus, and I think it cannot work in xp.

2.) I try to change OS version to 6.0
post1798.html?hilit=windows I can download NT 3.51 only, but It change nothing, my OS version still 5.0.

Are there any fix?
For example
-improve OCW
-games explorer for 2k/xp
-hacking renegade ops.exe

Thank you for reading

Missing Exports:
KERNEL32.DLL - AttachConsole,DecodePointer,EncodePointer
MSVCP100.DLL
MSVCR100.DLL
XINPUT1_3.DLL

Minimum System Requirements: Windows Vista

The new v1.11 Wrapper update is going to feature a new Product Info "GetProductInfo" API from Windows Vista

Source: Info: win2k_xp_kernel32.ini (OCW wrapper ini)

You've got PM.

Can you upload the DWI (Dependency Walker Image) of the game?

Yes, hre are two DWI files:

Starting with win ver 6.0 version faking:
(not enought storage is aviable to complete this operation)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/xfzs4n

Starting without versionfaking:
(the specified program requires a newer version of windows)

Hi,

thanks for the DWI logs. It turns out the problem is not related GetProductInfo Windows Vista version faking. A lot of people had this error with Just Cause 2 so i recommend trying to install the Game Explorer application manually by extracting the files and fixing missing exports in the game folder. This way you are safe from installing any malicious files.

Steamforum: Renegade Ops - not enough storage is available to complete this operation

The gameux.dll seems to be of importance.

I use winrar.

Are there any link to download?

I succesfully extracted the files, I executed the reg file, copyed gameux.dll and the other files to c:\windows\system32.
I ty to run game, and get an error message: "The application or DLL c:\windows\system32\gameux.dll not a vailed Windows binary file. Chceck this on the install disc"

I think this package is uploaded for win server 2008, which is 64 bit only.

I downloaded an other gameux.dll, and replace it, but I still get this message.

So win2000's files are in winnt (not windows) folder. I copy all files to winnt folder, PE header is edited to 5.0 with PE tools, but I get this message again.
Are there any ideas? (OldCigarette should add a hacked gameux.dll to the wrapper v1.11 :D )

Hi,

i just checked the game explorer gameux.dll uploaded at the linked site (games_explorer.7z) and there are to many missing exports so this library is not useful at all. You may need to look for a older version or better, for a Windows XP modified version. Maybe some folks got Just Cause 2 working on Windows XP and supplied a solution for Windows Game Explorer.

Also they mentioned setting compatibility mode on Windows 7 to Windows XP to get Just Cause 2 working. So i recommend to download Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0 and try out some settings of memory handling and such.

Download: Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0

I couldn't find older, v6.0 is the oldest. :(

I downloaded this tool, but it requires windows xp or higher.

Try Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0. There is no library call to gameux.dll from the game so i assume only some compatibility information is gathered from that dll. If you are lucky you get the game working with help of the MACT 3.0 tools.

Try out some older gameux.dll libraries and open these in Dependency Walker and check for missing exports. Maybe you find a library version that can be fixed with the wrappers.

1.) I downloaded a 32 bit version of gameux.dll, but it have a missing export in msvcrt.dll, which is KDW's dll.

the best idea: OldCigarette should add a gameux.dll to the next warpper v1.11.

2.) The microsoft compatibility tool doesn't have any effect, but if I right click on renegadeops.exe, and choice properies->compatibility, I could select windows nt 4.0 compatibe mode, but it don't work.

I think it is conflict of OCW's kernel version faking, and windows compatible mode.

The second idea: Hack renegade ops.exe to accept winver 5.0
Earlier I try this, but unsuccesfull.

We need to find a library which is working on WinXP or investigate this "not enough storage" error. Maybe this "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation" error is just related a few Windows Vista APIs. It's funny that a Windows XP compatibility mode is helping getting games working on Windows Vista/7 with API's not part of Windows XP itself

So that means Renegade Ops should be playable without Windows Game Explorer installed. My advice is to try ity with the ACT Tool. There are a lot of compatibility settings and if you find the right one it would be easier to fix this specific issue.
