This is an ended project (alky). I knew about it and I followed (without testing) until they left it. No more news since then. The project was left with... let's say a... pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha stage.

This wined3d seems to be still going.I remember some member mentioned it in some game trouble shooting post and that there were plans for DX11,too.Well, 53% of steam Users are still attracted and stuck to WindowsXP so lets hope someone likes to continue with this future promising project :D.

That package didn't install DX10 on win2k, found a later release but as my antivirus reports it to have a trojan in it I'm not sure how serious those guys are.

Well, for the moment, I don't need Win3D (nothing to test with), but I hope that the project continues. At least their last news are about this April...

One curious thins is that it need safe mode to install :-? Strange.

(Sorry the double post)

I read a little more and I think, if this project supports DX10 definitely, I'll love it as it uses OpenGL, which has a great performance, but... in the other hand, it's some kind of "driver in the middle" as an emulator and could cause the opposite on performance while interpreting DX calls and transforming to OpenGL.

We'll need to study in the future :)

Once games only support DirectX 10 they no longer support XP either. This also means no drivers for the latest stuff needed to run these games. IIRC the video driver model for Vista is quite a bit different than XP and is one of the reasons DX10 is Vista+ only. So we will run into driver problems even if we had some DX10 implementation.

I'll probably go to linux as my primary OS with my next PC, mostly because of the worsening driver situation for win2k.

Hi,

i checked some exclusive DX10 and DX11 games during the last couple of years and only a few of them require a few additional Windows Vista/7 APIs. So nothing really serious to get them working from the internal API point of view so the main flaw and limitation is in simple only the lack of DX10/11 on WinXP/2k. Which is really no surprise.

best regards

These guys from the Alky Project started packporting Shadowrun and Halo 2 from what i recall. Think both games got working on XP in the end. Hamilton's Great Adventure (Demo), a DX11 title for example has the follwing XP exports and only one Vista export:

Hamilton's Great Adventure Demo
Missing Exports:
X3DAUDIO1_7.DLL
XINPUT1_3.DLL
USER32.DLL - GetRawInputData,RegisterRawInputDevices
KERNEL32.DLL - GetProcessId,GetThreadId (Vista)
+DX11
