The lack of support for win2k

PostPosted by OldCigarette » Mon Feb 04, 2008 4:50 am

As many of you know Windows 2000 is basically unsupported at this point. IMO this is really without justification. If you look at XP and win2k the differences are minor, maintaining support for both systems is not the great burden that it has been made out to be. (If I can get these games working in a few days in my SPARE TIME it should take a dev 1 day to fix these issues.) Of course a lot of this is just Microsoft exerting it's leverage to break backwards compatibility as fast as possible.

Here's an interesting article w/ links to fixes!
(note that the ETQW binary is now compatible w/ win2k, cheers to SD for doing the right thing here!)

Have a look at how few win2k users are left :( Tis a sad day.

I for one ain't planning on switching till I have to. Luckily people are going to stick w/ XP a lot more than they stuck to 2k. Just look around at the outcry there was over Vista. As long as games support XP it is hard to see a case were were it would not be possible to backport these games.

Game on in win2k!

if your looking for more fixes till we get this forum going check here

Yeah, right. It is far to easy to say "this game or application is not supported by Win2k because that OS its that old".Well compared to XP its only a year older :) .I am tired beeing confronted with simple programing lazyness. If you look at the size of the here discussed fixes they could have been implemented within no time and with enough revenue.
