Colin McRae: DiRT 2 Demo * (solved)

...another Demo...i was bored :lol: So now we gonna see how this works out...

Missing Exports:
Xinput1_3.dll
Xlive.dll (probably v2.0 will do the job here)
IMAGEHLP.DLL - SymFromAddr

Fix:
1) download demo and extract content of the archive
2) to bypass the launch condition check,we need the Wrapper and the XP version-lie.
For Kernel32.dll you will need the wrapper pack:
click here to download Wrapper pack
and add copy together with the renamed Win2k system Kernel32_ORG.dll to the setup directory.Also add Wrapper ini to it: win2k_xp_kernel32.ini

Code: Select all
[win2k_xp_kernel32]
majVer=5
minVer=1
buildNum=2600
majSP=2
minSP=10
versionString=Service Pack 2

Now we can install the demo as usual 8).Thanks and greets to Dreamcatcher Interactive, Inc at this point :wink:
3) for Xinput1_3.dll download the x3daudio driver:
click: download Win2k X3Daudio driver
copy Xinput1_3.dll from the driver archive to demo binaries directory.
4) install Xlive Fix v2.0 found in the Tools & Info section
Download & Installation: Games for Windows Live v2.0.0687

5) running into one tricky API version problem with imagehlp.dll:

Missing Export:
Imagehlp.dll - SymFromAddr

Okay, it seems the demo doesn't load the new imagehlp.dll which i stored in the binaries directory.It seems this LoadLibrary Explorer Application could be a solution for this problem:
http://www.flounder.com/loadlibrary_explorer.htm

Have to play around with it a bit...

Wonder if we should link to this:http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/

For DX10/11 games?

I doubt it actually supports DX10/11 properly but it looks like Wine is adding support so mabye eventually.....

From a review I read today there doesn't seem to be much different in graphics between DX9/DX11 for this game anyway (as with most games).
To make it even worse the performance in DX11 is far worse than DX9! HA!

Muhawaaaa muhawaaa yeah, big polished DX11+ but nothing under the performance hood.

Update:
Created a fix for Dirt 2 Demo today.The Demo and probably also the Retail version should work now!
