PE Tools is a very usefull program to set the header of a .exe file to execute it under a older OS version
If you don't change the header you will receive the following error: "name".exe is not a valid win32 application.

How to install PE Tools:

1. Download the v: 1.5.400 at http://www.softpedia.com/get/Programming/File-Editors/PE-Tools.shtml
or from here http://www.uinc.ru/files/neox/PE_Tools.shtml

2. move the downloaded and unzipped folder to c:\program files\PE Tools
3. Make a shortcut to PETools.exe on your desktop or startmenu

How to use PE Tools
4. Open PETools.exe
5. Open PE Editor : Tools/PE Editor or click on symbol (see the screenshots):

7. PE Editor
On the right side you will see the entries for : MajorSubsystem Version and MinorSubsystem Version that you have to change. Don't change other values !!!

8. The MajorSubsystem Version is for the main NT Version:
The MinorSubsystem Version is for the sub NT version:
It should look like

--NT 4.0
Code: Select all
MajorSubsystem Version 0004
MinorSubsystem Version 0000

--NT 5.0, Windows 2000
Code: Select all
MajorSubsystem Version 0005
MinorSubsystem Version 0000

--NT 5.5, Windows Neptune
Code: Select all
MajorSubsystem Version 0005
MinorSubsystem Version 0005
Or the same like Windows 2k cause it's an alpha. It was planned to be NT 5.5
Internal system files have NT 5.5.5111 but Neptune shows itself as Win2k 5.0.5111

--NT 5.1, NT 5.01(Whistler),Windows XP
Code: Select all
MajorSubsystem Version 0005
MinorSubsystem Version 0001

--NT 5.2, Windows Server 2003
Code: Select all
MajorSubsystem Version 0005
MinorSubsystem Version 0002

--NT 6.0, Windows Vista
Code: Select all
MajorSubsystem Version 0006
MinorSubsystem Version 0000

--NT 6.1, Windows 7
Code: Select all
MajorSubsystem Version 0006
MinorSubsystem Version 0001

PE tools is a fully-functional utility for working with PE/PE +(64bit) files. Including: Editor PE of files, Task Viewer, Win32 PE files optimizer, detector of compiler/packer and many other things. It has nice features such as new plugin added - Recover UPX by Quantum , all options are saved in INI file now and MMF functions are re-written.

Gday mate,

Can you please update all the screenshots as now they are 404?

I recommend http://tinypic.com/ they seem to keep photos forever.

Hi justjohnny
I will see if I have them stored somewhere. If not i must creat them again.
It would be nice if we have a place to store them here. Because the got always deleted on other file uploader and a lot of our guides are now without images.

Hiya guys,

don't worry, i have the pics stored and they will be implemented again when we switch to the final host. This is only temporarily and file storage is currently not possible.
